about

I believe knitting is good for the soul. The creativity and repetitive motion are healthy and soothing, with just the right amount of challenge. Learning to knit has been, for me, a 25-year process. Somewhere along the way, knitting went from a stitch-by-stitch process to a project-by-project process, and then to a design-by-design process. Each stage of knitting has been marked with increased ambition, fuel by increased confidence and a hunger for challenge.

When I was a beginner, I was concerned with consistent tension in my knitting and learning stitch patterns. When I was an intermediate, I was concerned with choosing great yarn and following a pattern faithfully. Now that I'm an advanced knitter and designer, I'm concerned with creating solid designs.

I've come to love natural fibers, especially wool. I've come to appreciate the sensual pleasure of knitting, and the hypnotic feeling of prolonged, rhythmic activity. I've come to appreciate the significance of wearing an attractive hat.

Knitting enlivens the desire for good materials, for good design, and for comfort.

May we all have all of those things.

With love,
Amanda
